Ways To Reduce Your Oil Bills

Heating your home with oil can be very expensive so you may want to look at ways of reducing your heating bills this winter. There are plenty of cheap ways that you can do this. You can use things such as oil filled space heaters, curtains and electric blankets to help you reduce the cost of your heating that won’t cost an arm and a leg.

A lot of heat in the home is lost through windows and doors. Cold air can enter through tiny cracks between the frame and the glass which will more than likely not even be visible to you. You can probably notice a reduction in temperature when you stand beside windows or doors in your house as this is where cold air is entering from outside. Getting blackout blinds for the house can be a great way to block the heat from escaping. You can buy thermal curtains if you wish which will act as an insulation barrier for your windows. Another problem area for escaping heat are attics which can especially be a problem in older homes that do not have sufficient insulation. If you can afford to get your attic insulated, you will find that this will help to reduce your heating bills.

You can also buy oil filled space heaters to keep your home nice and warm. Small sized rooms especially benefit from this type of heating. They are safe to use and are very economical. They are great for helping to reduce the amount you spend on heating oil and are convenient to use and very quiet.

Electric blankets are also a great source of heat. Getting into a freezing cold bed in the winter not something that anyone enjoys so an electric blanket is a great way to prevent this. Because you will be heating up the bed, you will not need to heat up the room so you can save on heating bills. With an electric blanket you can make sure that the bed is nice and cosy before you get in. By following these tips you can lower your heating oil bills during the winter and still be cosy and warm.

Some people spend a lot of money heating their homes in the winter. Gas and electricity are very expensive today, with no signs of prices coming down. Savvy people are changing over to oil as a home fuel though. After the changeover they have to make sure that the storage tanks are always full of heating oil to ensure they never run out.

Heat the Home with Oil and Keep Costs Down

Costs for keeping the home warm in winter are obviously higher than any other time of year, and the price of the oil for heating can be fairly expensive. Fortunately there is a way to keep the costs of heating your home down.

Keeping vents in rooms closed in areas that are not used very often will make sure that you keep as much heat as possible in the house and that no cold air is getting in resulting in you having to keep the heating on for longer. It is obvious therefore, that you will save money on the oil by keeping the heat in.

It would be a good idea before the really cold weather kicks in to get an expert in to check that your home is sufficiently insulated and is free from draughts. That is also a fantastic way of keeping the cost of buying oil down. Check the boilers and heaters in the house, and if necessary get them serviced as well. This is because if everything is running as smoothly as possible, it will only use the absolute necessary amount of oil to run the system. Oftentimes the filters that are present in the system can become clogged up, leading to inefficiency in the system and therefore use more oil to work properly.

Another way to reduce oil costs is to reduce the temperature of your water. A lot of the time people have their water set to near boiling, and this is definitely not required and is just a waste of energy. Avoiding scalding is one obvious advantage of lowering the water temperature, on top of saving a lot of money on oil costs.

Older windows should be replaced if possible to prevent heat being lost this way. And having double glazing installed is also a great way of preventing cold air entering the house, which also means less heat is needed to warm the room up.

This winter period is going to be ever so cold, so make sure that you have purchased your heating oil from boilerjuice for great deals.
