Converging Catastrophes of the Early 21st Century
Americans have always been an optimistic people. That natural trait has helped them to overcome past catastrophes, like the Great Depression of the 1930’s, and to prosper as a nation. Partially as a result of good fortune in the form of having access to cheap natural resources and partially by hard work and smart business practices Americans have been successful as a prosperous nation and have come to believe in their exceptionalism.
As a result of past successes most Americans, certainly their leading politicians, believe that they are somehow better than other peoples of the world and are entitled to a lion’s share of world resources and prosperity. The converging catastrophes of the 21st century are about to put their belief in American exceptionalism to the test.

Payback Time for President George W. Bush
No, it’s not President Bush doing the payback but the leaders who attended the G-20 conference held at Bush’s request in Washington, D.C. Note how the leaders of the 20 developed nations do not shake Bush’s hand as he walks through a reception line. Not that Bush even attempts to shake their hand as by now he must know how they feel and wants to avoid as much as possible an awkward situation.
This is a sad indicator about how George W. Bush is despised around the world. It may seem petty for the world leaders to treat old George in such a rude matter but I suppose they blame him for much of the mess that the world finds itself in and want him to know how disliked he truly is.

Poor Barack Obama. He won his bid to be the 44th President of the United States. Congratulations to him, he fought a smart well managed campaign and deserved to win. However being the 44th President may well prove to be unlucky no matter how well Obama leads the nation.
Having lived in Taiwan and Hong Kong for a number of years I know that the Chinese consider the number four as being unlucky. I suppose that means the number 44 is double unlucky. We shall soon know.

2008 Craziest Ever Presidential Campaign
The following video captures in part just how wacky and at times truly crazy the American 2008 presidential campaign has been.
I should add that largely due to John McCain and his neo con friends it has also been the dirtiest low road campaign, probably in American history. With America falling into hard times after eight long years of corrupt, incompetent misrule the stakes as to the outcome of this election are high. The same folks who brought us Bush and his misrule are trying everything in their power to place their man, McCain, into the Whitehouse.
